The Newest Additions To The Rolex GMT-Master II Collection In Yellow Gold And Two-Tone (On Jubilee Bracelets)

Much of the fun of working in this industry is the excitement that precedes trade shows like Watches & Wonders. We like to anticipate, and we like to look forward to it. And we do – and so do I. If you read our predictions article before the show, you’ll see a lead image of a solid gold GMT-Master II watch with a silver bracelet. Until 8:30 am CET, this watch didn’t actually exist …… And now it exists. No, I didn’t show it, but it’s still cool to get something close to right (maybe the only time).

And, honestly, the solid gold GMT and the Rolesor (steel and gold two-tone) GMT aren’t necessarily surprising top replica watches. In fact, they are watches that you would think would already be in the Rolex collection, because they should always be in the Rolex collection. However, they are not. In years past, if you wanted a precious metal to go with your GMT, you would have seen Everose gold.

But this watch only came with an Oyster bracelet (solid gold or two-tone). So that’s the story of this new release today: Rolex has finally made a precious metal GMT with a Jubilee bracelet, and it’s hot. I thought it was hot when I saw the announcement online, and my hands almost caught fire when I held it in real life this afternoon.

It’s exactly what you’d expect from a Rolex GMT-Master in gold, which is why I like it so much. The brand could have easily over-complicated it – adding too many green accents and doing some weird two-tone bezel combination. Instead, the designers decided to keep it simple, and what we have is a handsome addition to the lineup.

The TL;DR on this watch is YG material and a two-tone bezel in black and gray (the first time Rolex has used a gray insert on a bezel). And that’s it. The most surprising part of it is the two-tone bezel, which is undetectable in certain light conditions. While I may prefer an all-black bezel, I’m not complaining about this version at all.

The watch frankgohlke.com has all the weight you’d want in a solid gold version, while it feels pleasantly light and wearable in the two-tone version, although that may only be relative to the all-gold weight. Finally, what the watch lacks in the grandeur of the emoji Day-Date, both versions make up for with perfect simplicity.

Whenever I think my preference is for all gold, I find the two-tone at the other end of the table and ask for a second and third look. It’s a combination of watches with no wrong choices (just a huge difference in price, CHF 15,700 for the two-tone and CHF 37,100 for the all-gold. Don’t tempt me with a good time.
